Looking over hundreds of toys that were collected and donated by the Eufaula local cable television organization for Mayor Joe Johnson’s Toys for Tots program are cable employees plus Roger Barton, Director of the Department of Human Services, who help distribute the toys. Also present is Checoath Mayor Jay Hayes, who joined Joe Johnson in helping founding the McIntosh County Toys for Tots program.

Piggly Wiggly Helps The Elders


Each month the senior citizen recognized some of the birthday recipients. Here, a group is gathered with Mayor Joe Johnson stopping by to wish them their happy birthday. The former Piggly Wiggly grocery store was purchased by the city in 1985 and continues to host senior citizen center and thousands of activities over the years and was an asset to the city.

Admiring the plague which was placed on the wall of the Johnson Indoor Recreation Center, which was located at the Fountainhead Resort, is ( from left to right) Fountainhead Manager Dave Hammonds, Speaker of the State of Oklahoma House of Representatives—and now Chancellor of Education—Glen Johnson, Senator Frank Shartin, and the recipient of the reward, Eufaula Mayor Joe Johnson. The Fountainhead building still stands, even though the resort has been raised after its purchase by the Creek Nation. There are current undergoing plans to replace the Fountainhead building with a hotel and possible casino.

Presenting long time City Treasurer and State National Bank Officer, Bob Guiou, with a plaque for his many years of services in the city, is Eufaula Mayor Joe Johnson. Guiou was not only an outstanding city servant but a great citizen, as well. He is respected by the entire Eufaula area.

Kirk Stingle Gets an Award!


Joe Johnson presents the Outstanding Boxer Award, on behalf of the Quarterback Club, to Kirk Stingle. Mayor Johnson assisted with the officiating on several of the boxing matches. The boxing tournaments were used to raise thousands of dollars in an effort to help Eufaula create and sustain sports activities on behalf of Eufaula Boxing Club.

That's me! presenting the Fireman of the Year Award to Leonard Luna. Each year, one of Eufaula’s twenty-five member fire department was selected for their services. The recipient of the reward was required to have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Mr. Luna was the proud recipient of the award that year.

The Good Ol' Days: Kick Off Toys for Tots



Brian Spielgene, owner of the Eufaula Ford dealership, presents a $1000 check to kick off the Toys for Tots campaign. The campaign was designed to help provide gifts for underprivileged children during Christmas time. Over three hundred and fifty children received toys from this program, all through donations from citizens like Brian.

The Good Ol' Days: Booker T. Contributes to the Cause




Making a contribution to the Eufaula area Toys for Tots Organization is the Booker T. Washington President and board members, including Eula Gregory as the Treasurer pictured in the middle. Toys for Tots was started by the Director of Juvenile Services, Tommy Akers, and myself.

Here, I'm being named the most popular elected official in Eastern Oklahoma, by the Green Country Press. Looking on is my wife Beverly. The former recipients were Governor George Nye, and U.S. House representative Carl Albert.

The Good Ol' Days: The Lions Club Donates



Presenting the very first check to furnish a room during the construction of the Eufaula Municipal Hospital is Robert Badcock, President of the Eufaula Lions Club. The presentation is being made to myself and the hospital’s first administrator, George Okie. All of the 33 bedrooms were furnished by contributions by individuals and organizations which helped get the hospital opened in 1976.
